If you're looking for a simple way of viewing digital pictures, you should definitely give Tom's Viewer a try. It's lightweight and portable, and it brings some useful options to the table, including various effects filters. It helps you navigate through your photos much easier than with the standard Windows tool, and the best part is that you can take it with you and use it on other computers.

The application is absolutely free, and, as previously suggested, it doesn't need to be installed, though you can find an installable version as well. You don't have to meet any special requirements to run this application, and you don't have to worry about performance since it uses only an insignificant amount of memory and processing power.

Tom's Viewer has a clean and simple user interface, just like other popular viewers, such as IrfanView. Additionally, its modern design will make you feel right at home, especially if you use a newer operating system, like Windows 10. The largest part of the window is where you can see your loaded images, and you can carry out various actions through the options on the toolbar.

The application has a built-in file browser, which you can bring up on half of the interface, which makes it much easier to find and load images. You can navigate through your local folders just like in Windows Explorer and you only need to select an image to view it on the other half of the interface. Additionally, you can find all the usual options you would expect, for zooming and panning, but you can also find advanced ones, for applying various effects filters, which can be tweaked on separate windows.

You can take screenshots of your desktop at a moment's notice, with a single click, but a more interesting feature is the possibility of taking screenshots of web pages and web videos. All you have to do is paste a URL, but if you know the address of a website, you can just type it in, without having to even look at the website on your browser.

Tom's Viewer may not look like much on the surface, but it takes only a few minutes to realize it's an excellent and reliable image viewer.

Pros

The application is lightweight and efficient. It comes with a built-in file explorer, so you can find and load your pictures faster. It lets you add various special effects on the fly.

Cons

You can't view your pictures in a slideshow.
